Posted on December 22, 2025December 22, 2025 by S Joseph

The Sarwath Hussain Digital Media Center has been inaugurated at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University College of Arts and Social Sciences, Osmania University. The center is equipped with advanced infrastructure including two state-of-the-art cameras and a specially configured Apple Studio computer system to support digital media production.
These facilities, worth nearly ₹20 lakh, were donated in memory of late Sarwath Hussain—an alumnus of the department—by his wife, Vidya Bhandarkar.
Honorable Vice — Chancellor Prof Kumar Molugaram, Osmania University, Hyderabad said” The Sarwat Hussain Digital Media Centre is more than just a facility; it is a bridge between a glorious past and a digital future. By equipping our students with world-class technology, Ms. Vidya Bhandarker has ensured that Sarwat’s legacy of excellence and global impact continues to inspire every student who walks through these doors. This gesture beautifully illustrates how the 'wings' gained at Osmania can eventually return to lift an entire generation.”
Sarwath Hussain completed his BCJ and MCJ from Osmania University between 1987 and 1989. He began his career with ICRISAT and later joined the World Bank in 1992, where he served in senior roles in the Communications division for nearly 25 years. He retired in 2017 from the World Bank’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Whenever he visited India, Sarwath Hussain made it a point to visit the Journalism Department at Osmania University. He also donated books such as the World Development Report and The Economic Style Guide to the department’s library.
Speaking on the occasion, Vidya Bhandarkar said that Osmania University played a key role in shaping Sarwath Hussain’s illustrious 25-year career at the World Bank. The BCJ and MCJ degrees he pursued here gave him the “wings” to soar professionally, she added. Referring to the contribution, she said there is a strong tradition in American universities where alumni give back to their alma mater in meaningful ways, and as Osmania graduates, they too wished to uphold that spirit.
