North India Emerges as a Growth Engine for India’s Expanding GLP-1 Market

Posted on September 1, 2026September 1, 2026 by S Joseph

As awareness grows about the link between obesity and serious health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and fatty liver disease, more individuals are seeking medical guidance to understanding their metabolic health. This shift is particularly prevalent in North India, where recent research found that over 74% of women surveyed had obesity or excess weight and nearly one in five exhibited high visceral fat levels, underscoring the need for greater awareness and sustained management.

Against this backdrop, Yurpeak®, Cipla's tirzepatide brand, emerged as the strongest-performing market nationwide in Delhi & Haryana during July 2026. The region contributed ₹1.54 crore in incremental value and recorded 30.1% growth, accounting for the largest share of incremental growth for the brand. Growth across neighbouring markets further reinforces the trend, with Punjab, Chandigarh & Himachal Pradesh recording 12.9% growth and UP North-West & Uttarakhand growing 9.3%.

The performance reflects a broader trend unfolding across India's obesity-management landscape. While the market has witnessed the entry and expansion of multiple semaglutide brands, tirzepatide-based therapies continue to command strong physician and patient preference, driven by their differentiated clinical profile and growing experience in real-world practice. Industry reports indicate that tirzepatide continues to lead India's anti-obesity market, demonstrating that therapeutic value and patient outcomes remain key drivers of adoption even asalternatives become increasingly available.

The strong growth seen across North India underscores a growing preference for evidence-based therapies that support meaningful and sustained health outcomes. As awareness of obesity as a chronic disease increases, more individuals are seeking treatments that address not only weight management but also broader metabolic health goals.

Speaking on this, Dr. Dr S K Wangnoo, Senior Consultant Endocrinologist at the Apollo Centre for Obesity, Diabetes & Endocrinology (ACODE) of Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals said‘Obesity is far more than a weight-related concern. It is a complex chronic disease that can significantly impact metabolic health and increase the risk of several serious conditions. What is encouraging today is the growing level of awareness among individuals who are increasingly recognising the importance of early intervention and seeking professional guidance rather than waiting for complications to develop. Across North India, we are witnessing more meaningful discussions around weight management, metabolic health and evidence-based treatment approaches, signalling a positive shift towards proactive and preventive healthcare.’

Yurpeak's strong performance across North India highlights the growing adoptionof tirzepatide within India's obesity-management landscape and reflects increasing adoption and confidence in differentiated therapies that support – long-term metabolic health and patient outcomes.
