Speakers emphasized that road safety must be given the highest priority and urged motorists to follow precautions to prevent accidents on the Nehru Outer Ring Road (NORR). IRB Golconda Expressway Private Ltd., the agency responsible for the maintenance of the NORR, organized the Road Safety Month programme on Saturday. The entire month of January is observed as Road Safety Month. On this occasion, participants also took a road safety pledge.

The pledge read: “Before driving on the road, I will focus on all aspects related to safety. I will always follow road and traffic rules and regulations. I will give utmost importance to the safety of others on the road along with my own. I will work with commitment towards road safety and inspire others by creating awareness. I will try to help those injured in accidents and follow a clean, healthy, and safe road culture.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief General Manager, Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL), said, “Our NORR stands as a model for National Highways and Expressways across the country. In addition, we are installing Multi-violation detection cameras ( MVDC) along the 90-kilometre stretch of the NORR in the Cyberabad region under HGCL. Through these, we will educate the public that road safety is achievable through discipline. Any violation of traffic discipline will be detected through these cameras. Issues such as accident prevention and illegal parking can be monitored in real time and immediate action can be taken. For the past two years, we have been organizing Road Safety Month programmes here and educating road users on safe driving on the NORR. As a result, accidents on the NORR have reduced significantly. Last year, even a Supreme Court Judge visited the NORR and appreciated the road safety initiatives being implemented here.”

IRB Golconda Expressway Pvt Ltd -Project Head said, “Not only on the NORR, but whenever we step onto the road, we must remain alert. If an accident occurs, it results in loss for everyone. The points mentioned in these pamphlets are very important. It is not enough to merely take the road safety pledge—we must not forget it. Along with ensuring our own safety, we must encourage everyone else to do the same. We should create awareness among friends, colleagues, and children. Even two-wheeler and three-wheeler riders who are not following rules near toll plazas should be guided properly. Our goal is for everyone to remain safe.”

The programme was attended by DGM, HGCL;, NORR Team Leader, along with senior officials, employees, and staff of IRB Golconda Expressway Private Ltd.
