Coromandel International Empowers Tribal Students with Comprehensive Infrastructure Support in Nilgiris

Posted on April 1, 2025April 1, 2025 by S Joseph

Coromandel International Limited, one of India’s leading agri-solutions providers, in collaboration with Round Table India, has successfully initiated infrastructure development at Eklavya Tribal School in Ooty, Nilgiris District, Tamil Nadu, furthering its commitment to improving access to quality education for underprivileged communities. This initiative aims to provide better learning conditions, essential amenities, and a safer environment for 200 tribal students, addressing both immediate and long-term needs.

The school has been operating with limited infrastructure, lacking proper classrooms, dormitories, and recreational spaces. To bridge this gap, Coromandel International has provided essential resources such as mattresses, blankets, uniforms, and washing machines to improve students’ daily living conditions. Additionally, the company has contributed solar streetlights and water purifiers, ensuring a safer and more sustainable environment for the students.

The inauguration was held at M. Palada Village, Nilgiris and graced by the District Collector of Ooty, Mrs. Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, I.A.S.; Head-CSR Coromandel International, Jayagopal Chathur; Ooty Round Table Honorary Member, Mr. Ashwin Shivraj; and other members from the government Tribal welfare association, students, teachers, members, and dignitaries from Round Table India.

Recognizing the importance of holistic development for students, Mr. Arun Leslie George-President & CHRO, Coromandel International Limited, emphasized the company’s long-term commitment to strengthening educational opportunities in underserved areas. He stated, “Creating a nurturing environment for young learners is key to shaping their future. Through this initiative, we are glad to contribute towards ensuring that students have access to proper infrastructure, allowing them to focus on their education without infrastructural challenges. We hope this project will serve as a foundation for their personal and academic growth.”

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Mrs. Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, I.A.S., District Collector, Nilgiris District, said, “Education is a powerful tool for change, and providing the right infrastructure is crucial to empowering children in tribal communities. The support extended by Coromandel International will go a long way in improving the quality of education and overall well-being of students at Eklavya Tribal School.“

Speaking on the partnership, Mr. Manohar Chugani from Round Table India added, “At Round Table India, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and grow in a conducive environment. This collaboration with Coromandel International is a step toward providing not just education but a holistic support system for these students. By improving their living conditions and learning spaces, we are giving them the tools to dream bigger and build a brighter future.”

This initiative aligns with Coromandel International’s broader vision of driving positive social impact through education, sustainability, and community development. The company remains committed to supporting rural and tribal communities by addressing fundamental needs and enabling a better future for the next generation.
