17.13% CAGR Since Inception: HDFC Mid Cap Fund Enters 20th Year with ₹1 Lakh Crore AUM Milestone; Managed by Mr. Chirag Setalvad Since June 2007

Posted on July 1, 2026July 1, 2026 by S Joseph

HDFC Asset Management Company Limited (HDFC AMC), investment manager to HDFC Mutual Fund (HDFC MF) and one of India's leading mutual fund houses, highlights the long-term track record of HDFC Mid Cap Fund as it enters its 20th year. Mr. Chirag Setalvad, Head – Equities has been managing the scheme since its inception (June 25, 2007).

As on May 29, 2026, the Scheme (Regular Plan – Growth Option) has generated a return of 17.13% CAGR since inception, outperforming its benchmark return of 15.04% CAGR over the same period. This performance reflects the fund's long-term focus on identifying businesses that have the potential to compound earnings and create shareholder value over time.

Mid-cap companies often represent businesses that have successfully established themselves within their respective industries and are entering the next phase of potential growth. As India's economy continues to expand, driven by rising consumption, manufacturing growth, formalisation, digitalisation and increasing financialisation, many mid-cap companies could benefit from these structural trends and potentially emerge as tomorrow's industry leaders.

Commenting on the fund's performance, Mr. Navneet Munot, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, HDFC Asset Management Company Limited, said, “As HDFC Mid Cap Fund enters its 20th year, having crossed Rs 1 lakh crore in AUM recently, it marks a milestone built on nearly two decades of disciplined investing through changing market conditions. The fund has navigated various market cycles and emerged stronger, remaining consistent in identifying quality businesses with long-term growth potential. This journey would not have been possible without the trust of our investors and the support of our distribution partners, who have stayed with us over the years.”

The fund follows a bottom-up stock selection approach focused on identifying quality businesses with robust management, scalable business models, sustainable competitive advantages and reasonable valuations. Through this approach, the fund aims to participate in long-term wealth creation while navigating different market environments and economic cycles.
