Seminar on Waldorf education and The importance of Self-initiative in early childhood and adolescence

Posted on January 29, 2025January 29, 2025 by S Joseph

At this crucial moment, as India evaluates its school system, Sloka has envisaged a training program and seminar, spanning the spectrum of school years.

Sloka -the Hyderabad Waldorf school, pioneered child-centered Waldorf Education in India in 1997. This *seminar will be held from January 27th to 31st, 2025 at the Sloka Aziz Nagar Campus.*

Sloka Teacher Education Program (STEP), formerly Sloka Steiner Waldorf Teacher Training (SSWTT), which has been recognised internationally, as the existing Waldorf teacher training in India is hosting this workshop. As part of our outreach, we have also trained teachers of Mini Gurukulams(Tribal schools) in Telangana last year.

Keeping the need for age appropriate education, we have planned two streams for teachers. One stream of this seminar discusses a phenomenological approach to deepen the understanding of Sciences from Grade 4 to 12, with a special  focus on Physics and Chemistry. It will be attended by educators interested in learning effective ways of teaching Sciences from a variety of key schools across India.

The second stream of this seminar looks at nurturing the sense of wonder in early childhood to the age of seven and upwards. Philipp Reubke, Head of the Pedagogical  Section for Waldorf education in Switzerland will discuss the importance of play, storytelling, puppet play and circle activities which nurture the senses. Waldorf Education believes that work and play are one and the same for a young child. This enthusiasm transforms to capacities and skills to realise their potential in any chosen field.

We believe this seminar will be impactful for education in India. Hands-on experiential learning develops love and interest in the world, alongside a sense of wonder and commitment to work as a channel to fulfill the dream.  It awakens in the young people a keen sensitivity to observe the needs of others and meet the world with an innovative approach to change, and a desire to act with moral imagination and responsibility.

Key educators in the global educational sphere, like Nana Goebel, co-founder of the Friends of Waldorf Education, will be present. The Friends of Waldorf Education is an organisation which is committed to the worldwide spread of Waldorf schools and education.

The Science workshop will be led by Prof. Dr Wilfried Sommer and Dr. Dirk Rohde of the Alanus university and High school Teacher Training at Kassel.
