The Growing Preference for Safe & Trusted Ayurvedic Cough Relief – By Vaidya Sujata Choudhary

Posted on July 12, 2026July 12, 2026 by S Joseph

Changing lifestyles, rising pollution levels and increasingly unpredictable weather have made cough one of the most common health concerns for Indian families. While most mild/moderate coughs can be managed with OTC remedies, consumers today are becoming far more conscious about the products they choose.

The heightened awareness has been fuelled by recent reports of contaminated cough syrups that contained toxic industrial chemicals like diethylene glycol (DEG) and ethylene glycol (EG). Reflecting this renewed focus on consumer safety, the Government of India has introduced amendments to the Drugs & Cosmetics Rules to strengthen regulatory oversight of syrup formulations.

This growing focus on safety and quality is prompting more consumers to choose Ayurvedic cough remedies. While conventional cough syrups are formulated using pharmaceutical active ingredients, Ayurvedic cough syrups are made with time-tested medicinal herbs such as Tulsi, Mulethi, Saunth and Banafsha, ingredients that have been used in Ayurveda for generations to soothe the throat, support respiratory health and provide relief from cough. This familiarity with natural herbal ingredients validated through modern scientific studies is increasingly driving consumer confidence in Ayurvedic formulations.

As consumer expectations evolve, trust, safety and efficacy are driving a growing preference for Ayurvedic formulations that combine the goodness of traditional herbs with the reassurance of modern scientific research.

Consumers should always purchase medicines from reputable sources and use them as directed on the label and preferably as recommended by a registered medical practitioner.
