Delhi’s Lohri Bonfires: How frozen snacks keep the fire alive

Posted on January 20, 2026January 20, 2026 by S Joseph

Lohri sparks to the life in delhi around bonfires that honor the harvest’s end, a Punjabi rooted celebration of longer days, community and gratitude where families sing folk tunes like “Sundar Mundriye” and dance bhangra under winter sky. Sarson ka saag with makke di roti, til laddoo, peanut chikki and gajak form the soul of the celebration, offered to the flames for blessings and shared to strengthen bonds, traditions evolving from grand village gatherings to urban home huddles to keep that warmth and roots alive without losing the magic.

This festive evolution is driving new snacking habits: STTEM 2.0 by Godrej Yummiez reveals 48% of Delhi folks boosted frozen snack use this Lohri, 59% calling them essentials for mithai- fueled bashes, 75% preferring desi flavours like tandoori tikka or aloo tikki bites and 80% loving the no wait gratification perfect for bonfire circles that linger late.

Lohri moves to its own beat, Gur Rewri pops amid bhangra, quick til laddoo rounds for late arrivals. Snacks fit right in, flavourful and fast, keeping the bonfire warmth glowing long past midnight.

On this festive spirit celebrity Chef Harpal Singh commented, “When the dhol beats and the bonfire crackles, you know Lohri has arrived! For me, it’s about gathering around the fire with the family, laughter in the air and plates full of sarson da saag, makke di roti, til ke laddoo and rewri. These are the flavours that define the festival. But as the celebrations move from open fields to city balconies, our snacking too has evolved over time, quick snacks and easy treats now keep the spirit alive till late into the night!”
